Depression vs anxiety disorder?

Hello and welcome to my blog.

Today I want to discuss a subject that often gets confused. And if you have read the title you know what two mental health problems I mean. Depression and general anxiety disorder. After some research, I found out that’s because people with depression often also get anxiety disorder diagnosed and Visa Versa. So the line between those two gets really blurry, really blurry. But someone with a depression does not automatically have an anxiety disorder and another way around. So there are a few differences you can pinpoint.

In this short blog, I will share some (big) differences between the two diagnoses.

  1. People who have a depression their reactions can seem dull. They move around slowly/slower.
  2. People with anxiety can be tenser and struggle to manage thoughts as a result of that.
  3. Also, one big difference is that people with anxiety often have a fear of the ‘unknown’ future.
  4. People with a depression often don’t have a fear for the future, cause they believe that things will stay as bad as it is now. Other words, they predict the future based on how they feel right now.
  5. The anti-depressant is a medication used by both disorders. But it does not mean automatically someone with anxiety is also depressed. It is just the name of the medication.

If you have any questions about the differences or anything else. Feel free to ask. Also if you feel like having a depression or anxiety disorder, please seek out help. You are not alone in this.

“There’s no right or wrong way to manage your mental illness. You are not less of a person for needing medication or having to go to therapy multiple times a week. If something helps your mental health, take the time to do it. don’t stop, no matter what other people think.”
